Director Steven Spielberg may have created the Jurassic Park movie franchise, but Jurassic World 4 desperately needs to stop being obsessed with recreating his classic. It is no secret that ongoing franchises have driven the movie business for quite some time now, with studios reluctant to invest resources in anything but existing intellectual property. In a world where streaming new release movies at home has become more and more commonplace, this stance from Hollywood is somewhat understandable, as theaters fight to retain their share of the entertainment space.
In the last decade, the Jurassic World trilogy has proven to be one of the most consistent theatrical draws around, with Jurassic World and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom both earning well over $1 billion at the box office. Despite the spotty reputation of sequels The Lost World and Jurassic Park 3, the Jurassic World movies have shown that audiences are still hungry for more dinosaur-based
adventures. However, the reaction to Jurassic World: Dominion may illustrate that this hunger is abating.
